Conventions of genre:

Jaws is a typical action-thriller. It build suspense throughout the whole movie and through many guns fired and explosions, it ends happily knowing whatever is threatening the main characters is dead.

Expectations:

The film definitely lives up to the expectations. There is just a perfect amount of talking, shooting, and action to satisfy the viewer and not bore them. The end is especially gruesome when a CO2 tank is shot inside the shark’s mouth and it explodes.

Review:

This film was a major blockbuster and it does live up to expectations of the genre. It appeals to action and thriller lovers as there is a bit of both. As we see this movie in 2010, it seems a bit clichéd, but it must’ve been really scary back then. The acting was good but at some times it did seem a little fake and too dramatic during suspense scenes. All the actors look the part they play which is a pro.

This films direction was very good. There wasn’t many boring parts and the ones with less action still had ways of building up the storyline and suspense. The shark attacks were a bit annoying. After the second time it happens you kind of figure out every time the music starts you’re saying “aw sh*t some one’s gonna die”, and you know what will happen

Finally, this movies is suitable for a young adults and adults who enjoy thrillers and some scenes with gore.

Turning Point 2: He learns to surf and goes undercover

Turning Point 3: Utah finds out the surfers he’s befriended are the robbers

Turning Point 4: Johnny’s girlfriend Tyler is kidnapped by Bodhi and being used as leverage so Johnny can’t arrest them

Turning Point 5: Johnny is reunited with Tyler and he catches Bodhi in Australia.

In Point Break:

The movie certainly lives up to the action movie conventions. Many characters are killed in shooting scenes, and there is fire and explosions. There are some parts with blood, but the real part of this movie were the stunts, as there were numerous

Review:

The movie was generally an O.K movie. Patrick Swayze played his part a bit too seriously and it seemed cheesy with all the free spirit and fighting the system speeches. Although, he fits the part perfectly as he looks like a stereotypical surfer. This may have given people a lot of ides of what surfers would look like due to the media.

Keanu Reeves wasn’t very good. His lines were very cheesy and it seemed like he forced out his lines that made it very dramatic. Some people may find he suited the part well because Keanu Reeves portrays his “badass-ness” through being a cop and with the shooting scenes and all

The directing was very well in terms of the stunts and how they were done, but there were some points in the movie where you’ll be looking at waves or someone surfing for two minutes, or someone surfing, Utah walking, someone surfing, Utah walking and back and forth for a couple of minutes

TP 1: Reuben catches Lisa cheating on him with Claude

The only other comedy film coming out that day is Furry Vengeance, which is family comedy and won’t interfere with the kids going to see this movie. There’s also a Miley Cyrus movie called The Last Song, which is a drama and not the same genre as this movie

Target Audience

This movie is targeted to anyone between the ages of 16-30, males and females. Older adults will probably find it stupid and seniors wouldn’t enjoy. The humor portrayed in the film isn’t for anyone under 16.

The movie is a comedy, with a generic storyline to it. It takes place in the modern day. The actors portrayed in this movie need to be funny, and look stereotypically rocker. Long hair and band shirts, and have an attitude. 4 actors will be needed to portray the band.

Logline
A young rocker and his friends open for their idols

Stage 1: Setup

17 year old musician Xavier  Porter is a graduating student who is in love with music. He’s short-tempered, committed, and has no idea where he’ll go in life. He lives in San Diego, California

Turning Point 1: Opportunity

Xavier finds a competition advertisement and the prize is an opening gig for one of his favorite bands.

Stage 2: New Situation

He and his band decide to join. Practicing is difficult for the audition because each member has things to do. Tuck has a very obsessive/controlling girlfriend. Mark has a serious job that he is at risk of losing, and Bob is a lazy drunk. Xavier himself has parents who believe he won’t get anywhere, but he is determined to prove them wrong

The band members start practicing heavily and it shows on their social and work lives. Except Bob, he’s doing fine. Mark got a warning that he’d lose his job if he missed a day or showed up late. Tuck’s girlfriend is beating him because he devotes more time to his music than his girlfriend. They all want to win the competition really badly, and continue to work hard in their practicing.

Turning Point 2: Change of Plans

Xavier has a major fight with his parents about the audition and it ends with them saying “you won’t get anywhere in that life, so give it up”. This pushes Xavier to push his band mates to work harder, as he wants to prove his parents wrong.

Stage 3: Progress

The band writes a song that is a guaranteed masterpiece. They believe that’s the one that will win them the competition if Tuck can get the guitar solo right. The band ends their practice, all thinking that Tuck won’t be able to perform well that night because the song will demoralize him.

The band’s friend Fleabag decides to help them out and carry their equipment. Fleabag is a crazy pothead, and drives recklessly around town, hitting stuff,  to get to the gig. The police ensue a chase, which the band manages to escape from, but a picture of the license plate is taken.

The band gets to the gig, and they begin a sound check. It seems that all the other bands relate to them as the underdogs, and that they won’t get anywhere and they waste their time.

They play the gig, and are surprised with their performance, especially when Tuck nails his guitar solo.

Turning Point 3

The band wins the audition, and are told that the show is in a week, but across the country.

Stage 4: Complications and Higher Stakes

The band manages to get the van from Fleabag, who gives them money and alcohol and wishes them a good trip. They get half way across the country when they get a flat tire. A good-looking chick stops her car on the side of the road to help whom Tuck falls instantly in love with, ready to break up with his girlfriend for this girl. She gives them a spare, leaves,  and secretly slides her number into Tuck’s back pocket, her last words being “I love rock stars” which makes Tuck optimistic about the whole trip.

Turning Point 4: Major Setback

The band stop for a drink and they end up getting wasted due to Bob’s encouragement. They crash somewhere along the way, and the van is totaled.

Stage 5: Final Push

The band in turn sobers up immediately and blames Bob, who in turn grabs his equipment and leaves.

The remaining members of the band decide to carry on with carrying their equipment by hand and walking to the audition. They get stopped by the cops and are shown photos of the license plate, the evidence of the crash and photos of them walking with their equipment.

They are put in a small jailhouse, and they only have 12 hours to get to the show. The officer watching them falls asleep. Tuck and Xavier tell Mark that they’ll try to dig their way out with a spoon, which in turn leads Mark to say “well, the front door is open, that’ll work too”. They sneak out and find their equipment and leave.

Turning Point 5:

The members of the band get to the show without Bob, and are told they can’t play the show without him.

Stage 6: Aftermath

Bob shows up and apologizes for his  behavior

The band then plays the show and become renowned. The recognition is just what they may need to make it big.

The band goes back to their life, with the exception that Mark lost his job for the opportunity of playing with his favorite band, and Tuck’s girlfriend dumping him because he left for so long. One day, they’re practicing when Xavier gets a letter in the mail. A record company wants to sign them, and the offer is a good one. The band is ecstatic, but Tuck is still depressed about his girlfriend. He sighs, and finds the number of the girl who helped them. He calls her and she wants to meet somewhere. He then asks the band if they’re up for another road trip and they agree. Xavier leaves the letter for his parents to see, which they find and are in shock. The final scene is them driving off down a highway…

…And they forgot Bob.

The person portrayed in my Family History photo is Francesco Arcuri, my grandfather, sitting on a chair smoking a cigarette near his home in a slummy area of Cattolica Eraclea, in Sicily, Italy.

As it appears, my grandfather seemed poor at the time, but as you notice the newer picture, you notice that he is situated on the top floor of a building, specifically a condominium. The story is that through all the struggles and everything he suffered through to make a new home in a different country, he managed to pull through them all and become a successful person. Just as in the older picture, he started in Canada from nothing, but he managed to work his way to the top as pictured in the newer photo.

The main flaw of this project was doing the work properly in class. It was way too disorganized with everyone having to use the computer so I decided to do the newer picture at home. It may have lowered my mark, but I didn’t have to face more challenges than needed during this project.

The old photo looks a lot better than the new one, and I’m sure that the new one will lower my mark in the long run, but I feel there is nothing I can do about it.

As for the restoration of the new photo, there weren’t many visual flaws. The biggest was the lighting and as I looked at the lighting histogram I realized how much better the picture could have been. I needed to use the spot-healing tool to fix a few facial flaws but that’s about it.
